Arizona has excellent 2A protections. Biden is sinking to new lows. SCOTUS hands down a pro 2A ruling yet 14 GOP Senators think it's a good idea to give the left power over guns.
Arizona is one of the best states in the Union for gun rights. Carry permits are not required, and when requested, shall be issued. We would prefer a lower fee for such permits, namely 0.
The Supreme Court of the United States, SCOTUS, today ruled that the New York carry permitting process is violating the second amendment of the Bill of Rights. In New York, public officials determine if an applicant needs a gun. In practice this means that they virtually always rule that the applicant does not need the permit. In practice there hence is no right to carry in NY state (and many other states). SCOTUS effectively ruled that states shall issue such permits. Unfortunately this is the narrower of the two possible paths to support the second amendment. A wider path would have been to rule that carry permits are unconstitutional and that the entire nation should have, as 2A prescribes, constitutional carry without the need for permits. Future lawsuits are likely as states such as NY may now become shall issue states, but may severely hike licensing fees to once again in practice violate the 2A and make carry virtually impossible for most people.
Joe Biden has issued a statement that he is disappointed by the SCOTUS decision supporting the 2A. This shows that he is actually anti-2A, despite his lies to the contrary. Biden, and people like him, want a disarmed citizenry that is easier to control and oppress.
Although the majority of Republican Senators, about 2/3 of them, voted against advancing gun control legislation in the Senate, 14 of them sided with all 50 Democrats, including both Democratic Arizona Senators, Kyrsten Sinema and anti-gun Mark Kelly, to push the legislation forward. The legislation would give money to states for enacting red flag laws. Red flag laws would give public officials the ability to seize firearms from people without due process.
The Republicans did get nothing in return for this. Domestic oil production is still hampered by the Biden/Harris administration's war on fossil fuels. The southern border is wide open. Racial and gender discrimination remain official federal government policy. Crime is rising, inflation is raging, schools are failing, and there are talks of new lockdowns and mandates.
Joe Biden's approval rating is lower than it has ever been before at a negative 16.5 percent in the Real Clear Politics average. 39.6% approve, 56.1% disapprove of Biden's job performance (see picture below).
The political instincts of some Republicans are remarkably off-base. Why would you hand your political opposition, whose leader is at record low approval, a political win that goes directly against the interests of your own voters? A wise man once said to not assume malice where stupidity is a more likely explanation. The weak Republicans who cucked on gun control are:
