Best Buddies Event at Tumbleweed Park

Best Buddies promotes inclusivity for people with disabilities. Their Chandler event with arts, crafts and games was staffed by young volunteers.

On Sunday, January 30 2022, young volunteers from the valley, including from the Arizona College Prep School (ACP), put on an event to foster inclusivity for people with disabilities. The event was organized under the umbrella of Best Buddies Arizona.

Placed around the perimeter of one of the large ramadas near the Playtopia playground in Chandler, games such a musical plates, soft ball target shooting, mini golf putting and dart balloon popping made kids happy, especially since everyone was a winner of prices. In the center, a number of arts and crafts tables invited kids to create with crayons, stickers, paper, beads and more. The organizers also provided free food, from cotton candy to to pizza.

Despite the great weather, attendance appeared to be modest. One reason may be that the event was not widely advertised, especially as an event that those with and without disabilities could attend.
