Chandler 5K and Half Marathon Draws Women Runners

On Sunday January 23, women from around the valley participated in a half marathon and 5K run.

The ladies participating in the run appeared to have fun as they made their way around downtown Chandler along a route starting at Delaware Street, continuing via Frye, Pecos, Cooper, Chandler Blvd and McQueen Road. Our estimate is that the run drew several hundred participants. Almost all participants showed their face, but a very small percentage ran with their nose and mouth covered with a face mask.

Around a dozen or so squad cars from the Chandler Police Department were present around the track. Officers also directed traffic. The route was demarcated by thousands of traffic cones.

The organizer SHE Power states on their website that the event was to celebrate the beauty, strength and determination of the participants. All finishers received a medal. Men were explicitly excluded from participating in the event - "Sorry guys, no men allowed in this one", although the police force working on scene appeared to be largely male.
